Workshop

Infection Control and Industrial Safety for Interpreters

With the interpreter role in healthcare becoming further defined as a true member of the treatment team, basic principles of infection control and industrial safety relating to the healthcare setting are of critical importance for understanding and implementation.  Participants in the workshop will gain familiarity with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), proper hand hygiene, reasons for mandatory interpreter vaccinations, and protocol for accidental needle sticks.   Additionally, this workshop will address proper precautions for interpreting for a patient on airborne, contact, or droplet isolation and pose ethical considerations for interpreting for patients with infectious diseases.
