Becoming an Emotionally Intelligent Interpreter by Marci Purtell (@ 1 pm)

IQ, EQ, and you. Join us as we discover what it means to have emotional intelligence, identify triggers, and learn strategies to develop resiliency from day 1.

VRS – Insider Edition by Marci Purtell (@ 3:30 pm)

Join us for an “insider” look at VRS and the crucial skills necessary to survive as a VRS interpreter.

Interpreting from the “Smart Seat” by Jeremy Norman

As professional interpreters we know that all of the team is active the entire time, and the terms “off” or “feed” interpreter are grossly outdated.  With a fresh take on that role based on the work of pilot teams on the flight deck, Jeremy will help us reframe our thinking of the important role we play (and how to do the work) when we are interpreting from the “smart seat”.

The Gap: A pot hole or the Grand Canyon by Tyriibah Royal

As aspiring interpreters we go through rigorous training and have our work constantly assessed. Our jobs can put us in positions of great vulnerability. This creates ease for imposter syndrome to set in, especially when trying to conquer the gap between ITP and certification. Let’s talk about it!

BEI Overview by Alaina Webb

This session will give participants a brief look at the development and components of the BEI Test of English Proficiency and BEI Basic exam. Many of the questions and mysteries of the BEI will be addressed here so that participants will know how to best prepare for and do your best on the exam. The session will include discussion on possible topics for the Basic exam, scoring expectations, and some of the myths and realities of the BEI. Transparency in testing is critical to validity. The goal is for you to be as prepared as possible to do well on the exams, and have a clear understanding of what the raters will be looking for as they score your test. We will save some time for Q & A so that you are ready to do your best!
