Elizabeth Vega Presenter Bio: A professional ASL interpreter for more than 30 years, Elizabeth is committed to the concept that all current practitioners must work to ensure that the field of interpreting reflects the rich cultural, linguistic, and racial diversity of the Deaf people and communities we serve. She also believes that the decisions and actions of individual interpreters have the potential to shape client expectations and the experiences of Deaf people and other interpreters for generations to come, and loves helping mid-career interpreters transition from “good” to “great.” Frequently working in teams that include Deaf interpreters, Elizabeth specializes in court interpreting and providing access for trainings, conferences, and other public events. Recent areas of study include interpreter self-care, mindful succession planning for late-career interpreters, and working with her colleague Carie Barrett, interpreting effectively for Deaf attorneys in court.
