Workshop Synopsis: Dr. Jon Bergeron (Clinical Psychologist) and I (BEI Master/Court and RID Advanced) are both foster/adoptive parents of Deaf children. Through the years, we have noticed a lack of training for interpreters when it comes to working with children who have trauma. As an answer to this situation, we created a workshop that explains the impacts of trauma from in utero to adulthood and how to work with children who have trauma.

Presenter Bio, Jon Bergeron: Jon A. Bergeron, Jr., Ph.D. graduated from Taylor University in Upland, IN in 1994.  He then completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX and one-year postdoctoral training in Child and Adolescent Psychology at Scott & White Clinic in College Station, TX in 2002. Dr. Bergeron continued for ten years at the Scott & White Clinic working with children, adolescents, adults and couples. He and his wife have been foster parents, and have adopted 2 Deaf children both domestically and internationally. Dr. Bergeron served for six years on the board of Voices for Children (CASA) in Bryan, TX. In 2011, he joined the non-profit organization, Hope For Orphans, giving leadership and vision in developing tools and resources for families in crisis and helping churches, organizations, and counselors meet the needs of families adopting at-risk kids.  During his time there, Dr. Bergeron spoke and led workshops on a variety of orphan-care topics at conferences across the U.S. and internationally. In 2015, Dr. Bergeron went back into private practice partnering with the Austin Stone Counseling Center in Austin, TX. He also continues to travel and speak about a variety of topics.
