Workshop

As professionals working between ASL and English, we must continue to refine our skills in both languages. This workshop will introduce participants to Greek and Latin roots for English vocabulary building.

This workshop will include an introduction to Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, suffixes and how words are built with combinations of these components. The meanings of many Greek and Latin terms will be analyzed so that complex English words can be dissected for comprehension. Participants will then be given opportunities to practice the new vocabulary through application activities.

This workshop should also benefit anyone preparing to take the Test of English Proficiency, (TEP). The TEP is a challenging assessment of an interpreter's skill in English. Anyone planning to take this assessment should prepare adequately in advance. This workshop will help participants develop strategies for understanding unfamiliar terms.
