Heather’s current position, funded through DHHS, is at Deaf Action Center in Dallas. She has been deaf since birth but was raised oral and discovered Deafhood in her late teens. Heather finds her position challenging and rewarding and views her deaf/hard of hearing consumers as mentors. She seeks to change her thinking about her identity and how the d/Deaf are perceived. Heather spends hours researching how to improve the lives of the d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing for personal use and for the community. One of her passions is teaching d/Deaf individuals to use interpreters effectively.
