Religion & Ethics: A Match Made in Heaven

Lucy James & Bob James

Bob & Lucy James will take a look at the RID-NAD (BEI) Code of Professional Conduct and see how the tenets apply to interpreting in various religious settings.  Weddings, funerals, church services—all need ethical interpreters. Bob, an ordained minister, will focus on the tenet requiring knowledge, teaching interpreter methods to prepare for the religious content to be interpreted. He will also share standards of confidentiality that apply to all involved in religious situations. Lucy, who holds RID CI and BEI Master and Court certifications, will lead the discussion on professional skills and ethical business practices as they relate to religious situations. Both will discuss respect for those involved and share ideas for further professional development in this area.
