My Communicator, My Friend

Communication is difficult enough without throwing hearing challenges into the mix. How does an interpreter draw a line between facilitating communication for a deaf individual and developing that unique interpersonal relationship with the same individual? This workshop will explore the challenges of interpreter-client relationships in general and offer suggestions for making sure the client’s needs are satisfied without sacrificing professionalism and ethics. This workshop will provide information that can be applied outside the scope of the hearing/deaf culture. Pamela has a passion for working with families and interpreters, offering ideas to best assist deaf individuals without risking the identity, integrity, or self-advocacy skills of that individual.
