IDP/HI Interpreting Teams: The Best of Both Worlds

“Mother, Father, Deaf?”  That question comes up frequently while working.  Whether your answer is yes or no, you are still an interpreter.  During this workshop, we will discuss the unique assets that both Interpreters with Deaf Parents (IDP) and the Hearing Interpreters (HI) bring to the fascinating work we do each day.  Language acquisition, cultural identity, and cultural assimilation will be discussed in a safe, fun environment.  We will look at differing perspectives and brainstorm ideas about what we can do as individuals and as a larger group to bridge the seemingly growing divide between the two.  And we’ll even tell you our preferences for teams.
