Workshop

Enter the World of Words with Multiple Meanings: Make your Interpreting More Readily Understood by Deaf Consumers.

This workshop will focus on the world of words with multiple meanings.  Being able to identify these words and matching their meanings with the nearest equivalent in ASL will allow Deaf consumers to decode the message in ASL with less confusion.  Participants will face the challenge of unraveling the myriad of meanings found within these types of words.  Additionally, some of the meanings are understood by small groups of people.  After an introduction on the process by the presenter, the participants will take sentences containing words with multiple meanings to small groups.   The participants will brainstorm as a group coming up with additional lexical items and how to sign them.  Finally, the participants will identify situations where lexical items with multiple meanings are expressed in naturally occurring discourse.
